The Burj Khalifa or (formerly Burj Dubai) is the tallest skyscraper in the world, at a height of 829.8 meters, consisting of 164 residential and commercial floors.

Design and construction of Burj Khalifa

Burj Khalifa was designed by the architectural office (Skidmore, Owings and Merrill “SOM”) in the state of Chicago, USA. The Emirati Emaar Properties Company (EMAAR) chose Hyder Consulting for its expertise in mechanical and electrical engineering to be the supervising consultant with (NORR group), which supervised the architecture of the tower project and the site during construction.

Burj Khalifa was designed by the American architect “Adrian Smith” with the help of the engineer “William Baker”, as the design of the triangular base of the tower was inspired by the lily flower, the design was made from the base to 27 levels in a gradual manner and the building was rotated by 120 degrees to reduce the impact of wind on the building, in general, the design of Burj Khalifa is inspired by Islamic heritage and traditions. The facades of the tower were designed to be more able to withstand the extreme temperatures that the Gulf region is known for, these facades consist of about 142,000 square meters of reflective glass, stainless steel and aluminum, about 26,000 panels and 330,000 cubic meters of concrete were used for the external facade glass, in order to complete the glazing work, more than 300 workers specialized in this field were brought in from China. It was said that the entire process of constructing the tower took about 22 million hours to complete it, and the number of participants in the project reached more than 380 technicians and engineers, and 12,000 workers. Burj Khalifa covers an area of 557,418.26 square meters, and it cost about 1.5 billion US dollars.

Information about the inside of Burj Khalifa

Burj Khalifa, “the tallest skyscraper in the world”, with a height of approximately 829.8 meters, consists of 164 residential and commercial floors, served by 54 elevators with a capacity of up to 12:14 people and a speed of up to 10 meters/s, and eight escalators. “Armani Dubai” hotel, which is a five-star hotel, occupies the first eight floors and the level 38 and 39 of Burj Khalifa. The tower includes 1,044 residential apartments, that can accommodate about 12,000 people, suites for companies, and a library for residents, the world’s longest library that provides special services for residents only. Burj Khalifa has the “Atmosphere” restaurant on the 122nd floor, the highest restaurant in the world according to the Guinness Book of Records, as it is located at an altitude of about 422 meters and covers an area of ​​about 1,030 square meters. In addition, Burj Khalifa is also distinguished by the Sky Lobbys, which are located on the 43rd, 76th and 123rd floors, which feature Jacuzzi, sports games and swimming pools, as they are considered the most famous therein, and the top of Burj Khalifa where visitors may visit to see the wonderful views surrounding the tower represented in the 124th, 125th and 148th floors.

A party was held with imaginary ceremonies and wonderful performances, such as the dancing Dubai Fountain shows to classical Arabic tunes, and the launch of fireworks from the tower for the first time on the opening night on January 4, 2010 AD.

Naming

Burj khalifa was known as “Burj Dubai”, on the night of the opening, His Highness Sheikh (Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum) announced that the tower had been named “Khalifa” to link this huge, internationally distinguished work to the name of His Highness Sheikh “Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan”, and the announcement was made in his speech, where he said (we build high tops with high determination and invest in humanity, today the UAE is drawing the new map of the world, the fact that the tower is the highest human-made building makes it a must to associate it with great names, and therefore I announce the opening of Burj (Khalifa bin Zayed).

Location and view

Burj Khalifa is located in the middle of Downtown Dubai, overlooking the Dubai Mall, the largest shopping mall in the UAE and the world, the Dubai Dancing Fountain, the largest fountain in the world, and Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Boulevard.
